Jim Dunn Memorial to
Pay $10,000 to Win on September 13
(July
28, 2025) Officials with the Valvoline American Late Model
Iron-Man Series fueled by VP have announced the addition of the
43rd Annual Jim Dunn Memorial to the 2025 schedule at Muskingum
County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio scheduled for Saturday September
13, 2025. The event will pay $10,000-to-win and $500-to start the
40-lap feature. The feature will boast a feature purse in excess
of $40,000 which will see 24 starters in the main event. This will
also be a Valvoline Weekend Allstars-points event.
The event honors the late Jim Dunn who passed away
on May 8, 1983, at Paducah International Raceway in a racing accident
during a NDRA-sanctioned event. Dunn was a school teacher and racer
from Roseville, Ohio who captured the inaugural 1982 Dirt Track
World Championship at the famed Pennsboro (W.V.) Speedway. Dunn’s
incredible 23rd to first victory in the event would solidify his
place in the racing record books. May 6, 1983, in front of an enthusiastic
hometown crowd at his home track in St. Clairsville, Ohio, Dunn
would capture his final racing victory.
The Jim Dunn started at Muskingum County Speedway
in 1983 with Donnie Moran of Frazeysburg, Ohio picking up the Allstar
Circuit of Champions-sanctioned event. The event stayed at Muskingum
County through the 1989 season, then moved to Midway Speedway in
Crooksville, Ohio from 1990-2014. The event went back to Muskingum
County Speedway in 2015, then made a stint at Ohio Valley Speedway
in Washington, W.V. in 2016. The event moved back to Midway Speedway
for two seasons before coming back to its current home of Muskingum
County Speedway in 2021. Donnie Moran is a seven-time winner of
the prestigious event while his son Devin holds four event victories,
second all-time.
The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series
fueled by VP last visited Muskingum County Speedway on May 31 for
the Inaugural Ronnie Moran Memorial which was captured by R.J. Conley
of Wheelersburg, Ohio in a thrilling event. Conley picked up the
$5,000 prize over Ryan Markham, 19th-starting Tyler Carpenter, Clint
Keenan and Doug Drown.
